I entered this art program with a goal of making a game and now is my chance to create it. After reading the book Wild at Hart I realized the themes of the book were similar with the movie Fight Club. Both addressed the restlessness in males in today’s culture and the fact that most feel unfulfilled due to the culture emasculating men. One remedy in both sources is intense physical competition. In fight club the men fight each other to relive stress and build camaraderie. I plan on using the same ideas in my own game. This game will focus on combat as a way to reinforce males. In participating in this game they will feel better about themselves and perform better in society.
I propose a Project currently titled Junk Knights. A game of Physical combat between people based off the movie Fight Club and Live Action Role-playing (larp). This game will consist of Armor and weapons made from everyday materials. Once properly armed people will battle each other in combat akin to the wars of ancient times and the middle ages. The focus of this game will be a sport like scoring system determining the winner. This phenomenon will be facilitated by a website encouraging an online community and organizing the game by providing information for players and newcomers. Also video tutorials on how to create Junk armor and weapons for the game will be made and posted on the site to promote an open source feel.
